State-Level PTA Reflections Winners!
Bay High senior Dominic Sclimenti, and Normandy Elementary students Paige Thomas (grade 2) and Nikita Butler (grade 1), took top honors at the state-level PTA Reflections 2019-20 arts competition.

PTA Reflections is an annual arts competition that encourages children to express themselves creatively in their art work. Art is submitted and judged in the following categories: Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Dance Choreography, Film Production and Music Composition.

This year's Reflections Theme was "Look Within." Bay Village City School District students won the following state-level awards for the 2019-20 competition:

Domula by Dominic Sclimenti   Bay High senior Dominic Sclimenti placed Second in the Special Artists category with his Photography entry at the Ohio PTA state-level Reflections competition. His artist statement reads: "Dominic has loved Dracula ever since he first learned about him in the second grade. He imagines that he becomes dracula-like at night complete with fangs and a widow's peak. He loves to dress up as his alter ego 'Domula'. While taking this selfie he showed off his fangs. His sunglasses reflected his cell phone which reflected his face, he was looking within. But Dom says 'That's just a figure of speech.' He was able to see the Dracula inside of himself in this photo."

Button House Normandy Elementary second-grader Paige Thomas received Honorable Mention for her photograph, Button House. Her artist statement reads: "Look within this beautiful bird house. Looking in the tiny black hole you may see a bird or a nest of eggs. From the outside, you would not know it's there. What do you think is inside?"

First-grader Nikita Butler took Third Place for her dance choreography entry. She made the video to show the world that her sister, Elle, who is in a wheelchair, can dance. Her artist statement reads: "When I think of looking within, I think about how passionate I am about dance and how I want my sister who can't walk to feel what I feel when I'm dancing. I created this dance to show everyone that Elle can do everything we can do."
