Important Public folder information
The Public folder on the
Bay Schools file server should be used with caution. The files can be
viewed/modified/deleted by anyone in the district, and the files are not backed
up. Anything deleted from this folder is lost forever. It should be used only
as temporary or secondary storage. ALWAYS KEEP A BACKUP COPY OF ANYTHING
IMPORTANT.
Bess/N2H2 Internet Filtering
Occasionally, the Internet
content filtering software will block web pages from being viewed, citing
various reasons (gambling, pornography, chat rooms, etc.) that the page was
blocked. Sometimes, legitimate pages may
be blocked for what seems like no reason. Bess provides a link to submit a website for
review by the filtering company. When a review request is submitted, a copy of
the request is emailed to the Bay Schools Technology Specialist, along with the
IP address and time the request was submitted. (We do not have control over
which specific sites are blocked, only the categories that are blocked) This
information allows us to pinpoint which PC was used to submit the request and
track down whomever sent it in. If a request contains
threats or foul language, we can usually track down who was logged on to that
PC when the request was submitted and give that information to the assistant
principal.
If the review submission is
polite, the company will check out the site and decide whether to remove it
from the blocked list.
