School Psychological Services
School psychologists provide a variety of high-level, professional psychological services to help us serve our students.

Our school psychologists are trained in both psychology (including neuropsychology) and in the field of education to help identify and serve students with learning, behavioral, social and physical disabilities. They are certificated and licensed by the State of Ohio. Some of their key roles include:

Assessing Barriers to Learning
Our school psychologists are called upon when students are referred for possible learning disabilities, attention probems, behavioral problems and language difficulties; and, they are uniquely suited to help identify the presence of traumatic brain injuries and related problems.

Profile
The school psychologists administer a variety of tests and review data with teams of evaluators that includes appropriate specialists. The evaluation teams determine whether special education services are needed.

Consultation
Once identification of disabilities has been made, our psychologists serve as primary educational consultants to:

  - parents
  - teachers
  - administrators
  - IEP (Individualized Education Plan) teams
  - Out-of-district specialists, physicians and therapists

The school psychologists' expertise is essential in developing interventions, adaptations, strategies and monitoring to help students reach their educational goals. Their extensive training and experience is critical when implementing the recommendations of out-of-district professionals into a student's Individualized Education Plan. School psychologists may also work with parents to develop homework plans and other home interventions to help students succeed.

Crisis Intervention
Our school psychologists are also available to provide intervention for students who are in crisis mode, and they can recommend out-of-district resources to those who would benefit from professional psychotherapy.

In addition, our school psychologists are integral to school-wide crisis teams that convene whenever a tragedy (death or other loss) arises. Crisis teams provide individual and group counseling, as needed.
