 UP WITH PEOPLE!
 UpWithPeopleOnFeet375px.jpg
Bay Middle School students recently enjoyed workshops exploring how to be Global Citizens. Up With People representatives inspired students to promote teamwork, celebrate diversity, promote cooperation and to inspire achievement. Their values support our school districts Core Values of: 1. Respect for oneself, school & community; 2. Act safely, kindly, and fairly; and 3. Accept oneself, challenges, and all others. The visit was also planned to honor a recently deceased teacher, AnnMarie Young, who toured with Up With People as a young adult and worked to inspire all her students to be Global Citizens and appreciate diversity and different cultures. The group was funded by the Bay Village Education Foundation through a grant written by Bay Middle School teachers Carol Brajdic, Colin Lackey, Nancy McLaughlin, and Julia Papcke-Russell.

BMS students travel the world with Google Cardboard!
 Googl3.jpg
Bay Middle School students visited Egypt, Rome, the moon and more through 3-D, 360-degree virtual reality using Google Cardboard! Google Expeditions chose BMS, along with some other area schools, to beta-test their new VR program. Teachers can guide students on their "tours" through use of an iPad. "It won't replace real field trips," said teacher Gary Fitchpatrick. "But it lets us visit places were we cannot go." A smart phone is placed inside the Google Cardboard viewer to access the specially-filmed videos, a growing variety of which are available online. Moving the viewer changes the viewer's perspective, giving a 360-degree point of view based on where the viewer is pointed.

About Bay Middle School:
Bay Middle School provides all district students from 5th - 8th grade a curriculum and learning environment that is specifically designed for their age group. Each grade uses a team teaching approach, with grade levels broken into classroom-sized teams who stay together as they change classes for core subjects.

Facilities
The building, which opened in 2004, provides each grade level with its own academic wing. Large classrooms are fully wired for Internet, telecommunications, and video. The school’s designers put the state-of-the-art facilities for music, art, and athletics far away from the quieter academic areas. The beautiful and bright library is also fully wired for the enhanced use of technology. A large gymnasium accommodates full-school assemblies, and a second, community gymnasium serves residents through the Bay Village Recreation Department.
