This pre-admission visit will also include a discussion of daily classroom schedules and tuition and attendance policies.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)After you've enrolled your child ...orientation procedure (back)

Each child under kindergarten age is required to complete a classroom orientation accompanied by a parent or guardian. The orientation session is age appropriate, designed by the age group coordinator and approved by the Glenview Director.

The staff also recommends that parents/guardians visit the center with their school-age children to meet the staff and familiarize them with the building before their first day of attendance.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes) Parent Visitations, Involvement, & Conferences (back)

The Glenview staff welcomes any opportunity to work with parents. Our "open door" policy means custodial parents/guardians are always welcome at the Center. We do ask that visits not be scheduled during nap times and advance notice of a visit is always appreciated. Please stop in the office to sign in before visiting a classroom.

The Glenview program is distinguished by a high level of parent involvement. Parent volunteers are welcome in Center classrooms to assist with field trips, present programs, share a special talent or help with activities.

Staff members make every effort to schedule at least one annual parent conference for each preschool child. However, telephone or "in person" conferences for any child at the Center can be scheduled as needed during the year to discuss specific issues or concerns. Teachers encourage parents to share information and events occurring outside the Glenview environment which may influence their child(ren)'s behavior and attitude while they are at the Center. Call 617-7330 to schedule a conference. Issues or discussions of an extended nature should be scheduled before or after school hours to ensure classroom sessions will not be interrupted.

The annual Glenview Preschool Open House provides an opportunity for parents/guardians to speak with teachers, visit classrooms and learn more about the curriculum and program in specific classes. A Parent Bulletin Board is located on the south side of the main corridor near the school office. The Center staff posts important information in this location, and parents may use the board to share information with each other.

A class roster is available to parents for their own child(ren)'s class(es). Parents may request, during the pre-admission meeting or by contacting the Director, that roster information not be made available to others.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes) Daily Schedules (back)

The infant program relies on parental information to ensure each child's individual schedule is followed as closely as possible. Parents are kept informed on a daily basis regarding their child's activities throughout the day when they come to pick up their child.

The Toddler and Preschooler's daily schedules vary but provide a wide range of activities. Classrooms are equipped with materials which provide growth in all areas of the child's development. Teachers provide approved curriculum which is developmentally appropriate for each age level. Some time each day is spent in free play; developing manipulative, cognitive, and sensory skills; science projects; music; and language arts. Quiet time activities and nap time are also a part of the daily schedule.

The Kindergarten Extension program is available to children enrolled in kindergarten in public and/or parochial schools. The children are bused to their respective schools for the regular kindergarten program. Glenview staff work closely with kindergarten teachers to provide a program at Glenview which compliments or reinforces the regular school curriculum.

The Elementary before and after school program is available for elementary age children. Bay Village children are bused to and from Normandy, Westerly, Middle and St. Raphael schools. Early morning activities involve small group activities, games, and play under a teacher's guidance and geared to the age level of each child. Afternoon activities include opportunities for outdoor play, games, quiet times, projects, and homework.

Copies of classroom schedules are posted in each classroom. Extra copies are available in the office.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Arrival and Departure Procedures (back)

Upon arrival at the Center, children are to be brought to the classroom by the parent. Each day parents are required to sign in and sign out, and note the time of arrival and departure. Please note: During and emergency evacuation situations and during fire/tornado drills, sign-in/sign-out sheets are used to check classroom attendance.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Release of Children (back)

In accordance with state regulations, children are released only to a custodial parent, guardian, or person authorized by the custodial parent. If a person other than the parent is delegated to pick up a child on a specific day, authorization must be in writing and presented to the teacher at the beginning of the day.

If, during the day, a parent finds it will be impossible to pick up the child in the afternoon a telephone call must be placed to the school office to identify the authorized person. The teacher will ask for identification from the person who picks up the child.

If a school-age child will not ride the bus to Glenview after school, the Center must be notified not to expect the child on the bus.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Attendance Schedules (back)

Blank Attendance Schedules are placed in each child's mailbox or folder on or before the 15th of each month for the upcoming month. For example: On or before September 15, blank October schedules are available (if lost or misplaced, extra schedules can be obtained in the office).

Attendance Schedules. indicating the days a child will attend the Center, must be returned to the office by the 25th of the preceding month. For example: On or before September 25 all October schedules must be returned to the office.

Please note: Classroom attendance rosters are made monthly from these schedules. Attendance rosters are given to each classroom teacher, elementary school, the middle school, and transportation before the start of each new month. Timely return of Attendance Schedules ensures that everyone knows where your child should be on a given day. A $10 late fee will be assessed for late schedules.

If a child will not attend on a regularly scheduled day (e.g. illness, vacation, etc.), parents are asked to call and inform the office at 617-7330 as soon as possible. If parents choose not to use an already scheduled day, but substitute another day instead. no refund or credit for the change will be given. The daily rate is charged for the additional day. Please call the office before sending your child on an additional day. Our classrooms are staffed according to the number of children expected for the day. Therefore, we need to be certain that enough staff is available to meet state licensing requirements.

On days when the Bay Schools are closed due to weather conditions, we ask that parents call the Glenview office to indicate if their child will attend so adequate staff can be ensured.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Tuition Payments (back)

Tuition for preschool children is calculated on the number of possible days the child will be enrolled at the Center throughout the year with holidays, vacation credit days and sick days already subtracted. The yearly tuition is then divided into twelve monthly payments.

Tuition for elementary children is calculated on the number of days students attend public/parochial schools (180) for the school year. The tuition is then divided into nine monthly payments. Elementary children do not receive sick day credits. On days the schools are closed (e.g. teacher work days, holidays, or during the summer) a daily rate is charged. The current daily rate is listed on the Tuition Schedule (copies are available in the office).

Monthly tuition payments are due in the office by the 1St of each month. Tuition received after the 5th of the month is considered late and is assessed a 5% late fee on the total amount due. Payments can be placed in the lock box in the office at any time. Checks should be made out to "Glenview Center." Returned checks for insufficient funds are assessed at $15 fee. Failure to pay tuition by the end of the month can result in termination of child care services.

Families with 2 or more children enrolled full time will receive a 10% discount off tuition for the 2nd child, 5% for the 3rd.

A parent who withdraws their child over the summer months may reserve a space for the fall by making a $50 deposit.

The Bay Village Board of Education reserves the right to adjust tuition policy and fees with one month's notice to parents.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Withdrawal from the Center (back)

Written notification of withdrawal from the Center must be received at least two weeks in advance of the withdrawal date. No refund in tuition shall be made before that date. If a child is withdrawn without advance notice, two weeks tuition will be assessed.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Children's Health (back)

Medical Forms - Medical form must be completed for each preschool child before his or her entrance into the program. A medical form signed by the child's physician must be completed once each year for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

When a child becomes ill - There are always staff members available who are trained in first aid and communicable disease recognition. Staff observe the children daily and isolate a sick child and phone the parents to pick up the child if the following symptom(s) occur: diarrhea (more than once), severe coughing (whooping, red/blue face), difficult or rapid breathing, yellow skin or eyes, symptoms of conjunctivitis (pink eye), extreme sore throat (strep) infected skin patches, dark urine, gray/white stool, stiff neck, 100-degree temperature (axilary method), evidence of lice or other parasites.

Parents (or parent designate) are required to pick the child up within one hour of the phone call concerning the sick child. In some cases, a doctor's note may be required before readmittance into the Center.

Children will be isolated and observed within the group if the following occurs: unusual spots or rash, sore throat and/or difficulty in swallowing, vomiting (once), symptoms of a cold.

If the child's symptoms persist or worsen to the degree that a s/he is not feeling well enough to participate in classroom activities, the parent will be called to pick the child up within one hour of the phone call. If a child has experienced the above symptoms and the parent is requested to pick the child up, the child will not be permitted back at the Center the following day. We ask that children not be sent to Glenview if these symptoms occur at home. Please note: The Department of Health's Communicable Disease Chart is located in the infant/toddler hallway, next to the office in the hallway, and in the Director's office for your reference and convenience.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Administration Of Medication (back)

Parents must sign the appropriate State form and provide a physician's authorization or current prescription if medication, vitamins, modified diets, or fluoride supplements are to be given to a child. All medications must be in the original container and labeled with the name of the child, the name of the medication, the dosage ("as needed" is not acceptable), and the name of the prescribing physician.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Health of the Staff (back)

All staff are required to have a Mantoux test and a physical examination upon employment at the Center. The Director will review with all staff members the signs and symptoms of illness and proper hand washing and disinfection procedures. This review is also clearly stated in the Staff Handbook, and discussed periodically at staff meetings.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Special Services (back)

The Bay Village Junior Women's Club provides amblyopia screening each year for the children at Glenview Center.

The school district offers a special program for children between the ages of 3 - 5 years who are experiencing delays in speech or social, cognitive, or behavior development. The Special Early Education Developmental Program (SEED) is housed at Glenview. Children may be eligible for SEED after assessments have been completed by the Bay Schools' Special Services Department. For more information about SEED, contact Diane Williams at 617-7322 or Carla Farrington at 617-7342.

At no time is a child observed or tested without written permission from the child's parent/guardian.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Emergency Fire and/or Tornado Evacuation Procedures (back)

In accordance with state licensing standards and the Bay Village Fire Department, procedures have been developed to cover fire and/or tornado emergencies. Guidelines and charts for evacuation are prominently placed in each classroom. This information is also posted in the school office next to the entrance door.

To make the Center a comfortable and secure place for a child, safety rules and emergency procedures are reviewed with the children at their appropriate developmental level.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Parking (back)

Parking is permitted only in the main parking lot south of the building. The NO PARKING areas are in effect at all times, including drop-off and pick-up periods. The areas designated NO  PARKING are used as playgrounds and fire drill evacuation points so it is imperative that the restrictions be observed.

On school days there is no parking permitted on the east side of the building along Beach Lane to ensure safe student pick up and drop off by school buses.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Field Trips (back)

Parental permission, in writing, is required for each field trip. A "blanket permission slip" may be requested for a series of regularly scheduled field trips within walking distance of the Center. Individual field trips by school bus require trip specific  permission forms.

The costs for field trips is not included in the tuition schedule. Any fees associated with field trips, including transportation, will be charged to parents/families.

The expectation is that all children in attendance on the day of a field trip will go on the field trip.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Food Services (back)

Children are served snacks during the morning and afternoon sessions. Children who are at the Center during the lunch hour are given lunch prepared by the Bay Village Schools' Child Nutrition Services Department. Monthly lunch menus are posted in the Glenview kitchen and school office. Copies are available in the office.

The Center is not licensed to serve breakfast, so we ask that children eat breakfast before they come to Glenview. This policy does not apply in the infant room.

Elementary children are required to store their lunch boxes in lockers when they return to the Center after school. Since a snack is served in the afternoon, children are not permitted to eat from their lunch boxes during the day at Glenview.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Clothing & Other Supplies (back)

We ask that each child keep a canvas or plastic tote bag containing a complete change of clothing at the Center. The bag and all articles of clothing should be labeled with the child's name. We find that older children may wish to change out of their school clothes when they arrive in the afternoon.

If a child will be taking a nap or participating in a rest time during the afternoon, s/he should keep a blanket and sheet at the Center. Younger children may be comforted by a favorite soft toy.

littleperson.GIF (364 bytes)Behavior Guidelines (back)

The Center's behavior expectations are age appropriate, and staff members communicate them in words children can understand. Children at the Center are not punished physically or verbally. The emphasis is on making discipline a positive learning experience with a clear cause and effect relationship. Rules are made clear and so are the reasons for them. The goals are to help the child realize that while his/her feelings are accepted, the behavior is not and that all children have the potential for keeping their behavior in control.

Taking this philosophy into consideration, the following procedures have been established:

  1. It is the responsibility of the teachers to be able to communicate, at the child's level of understanding, an acceptable behavior for each situation.

  2. The teacher will make every effort to keep a child from hurting him/herself or others. This will be accomplished by:

    • Drawing the child's attention to what s(he) is doing and reminding the child that it is not acceptable behavior;

    • If the behavior continues, the child is withdrawn from the situation and directed to another activity. The teacher may take that opportunity to address the child's feelings, help the child to see the behavior is inappropriate, and what the child can do if s(he) finds her/himself in a similar situation in the future.

    • If the child still has difficulty staying in control, the child may be timed out from activities altogether or for a particular length of time (depending on the age of the child).

  3. In extreme situations, the parent may be called to remove the child from the Center for the remainder of the day. The staff and parent will then work together to make a plan for helping the child when s(he) returns to school.

  4. The Center reserves the right to permanently exclude a child from Glenview if the staff and Director feel the child may injure her/himself or others as a result of continued inappropriate behavior, if the child is unable to adjust to the classroom experience, or if the child's behavior is such that it requires the constant attention of the teacher(s).

These behavior guidelines are reviewed and signed by each parent during the pre-admission meeting.
