Sharing a love of reading at Westerly
BookBin
Westerly students are making it easier to share the gift of reading. A new, big blue book bin has been installed at the entrance of Westerly Elementary School so students and others in the community can drop off children's books. All donated books (new or gently used please) will go to the Cleveland Kids' Book Bank, where they will be distributed to children in the Cleveland area who have no books of their own. Especially needed are books for younger readers as well as books that show diversity. Helping with the project are Westerly K-Kids, a young group affiliated with Kiwanis, and their advisor on the project, Marian Harmount.

Bay Middle School Eighth Graders presented
Famous French WAX Museum
So many famous French monarchs, scientists, entertainers and other historical figures came to life on Monday, November 19 when our eighth grade French classes presented their Famous French WAX Museum. Students researched famous French individuals, created presentations about them and dressed like their research subjects. What a way to make these interesting and accomplished French figures come alive for the students and visitors to the "museum." Their French teacher is Laura Hall.

Top sellers for Bay Middle School PTSA get super prizes!

Bay Middle School PTSA turned the student body into a Sales FORCE! Ten top sellers of the most magazines and chocolates rode a limo to Chipotle, each inviting a friend.
Mr. McAndrews and Mr. Grodek chaperoned the trips with lights and music inside - what a blast! 64 students enjoyed Kalahari Resort on Tuesday for reaching other selling levels.
The fundraiser benefits the entire school of students as PTSA provides so many wonderful programs.

LeafRaking Annual Rake Out by Bay Middle School students greatly appreciated by residents

Our Bay Middle School students raked the yards of close to 200 elderly or disabled residents in Bay Village on Friday, November 16! This annual Great Rake Out is such a wonderful benefit to our community AND to our students. Thanks to students, staff and parent volunteers. You did it again! (And a special thanks to Mr. Gary Fitchpatrick, our advisor/organizer.)

Superintendent Hausmann hosts crossing guards with breakfast
Thank you to our Bay Village Crossing Guards! They keep our students safe on their way to and from school. Superintendent Hausmann hosted a breakfast in their honor on Friday, November 16. You can thank them by giving a wave when you see them. Honor their service by following their lead as they escort our children in their safe street crossings!

Honoring our Veterans
Veteran's Day commemorated by our staff and students.
In honor of both Election Day and Veterans Day, our school properties were lined with hundreds of American flags from November 5-12. This visual was meant to inspire our students, and our entire community, to take pride in our democratic process and in our veterans who have fought so hard for our freedom! (Thank you to Jack Heider and Kevin Egan of our maintenance staff for placing all those flags!)
In addition, students participated in a variety of Veterans Day activities, some of which are detailed in this photo slideshow:
