Bay High senior wins national PTA Reflections prize

Bay High senior Laura Guerin won a national Award of Merit in the 2008 PTA Reflections contest. Guerin's work went on to the national competition after winning a state-level Award of Excellence (1st Place).

When asked how her work spoke to the competition theme of "I can make a difference by . . .", Laura said, "I believe that it is possible to make a difference in anyone else's life regardless if they are like you or not, so I chose to portray two people hugging with ambiguous race, gender, and age. It also shows that even if language is a barrier, there are still unspoken ways to show another your affection."

Also competing at the national level was the work of Cameron Meakin of Bay Middle School, a state-level Award of Excellence winner, and Hope Beatty of Normandy Elementary, a state-level Honorable Mention winner.
