The semester-based schedule uses blocks of 90 minutes for core courses in order to give teachers and students plenty of uninterrupted time to delve into complex aspects of the curriculum. Teachers can use the longer periods for meaningful, hands-on activities and group projects. The schedule also uses “skinny” periods of 45 minutes to allow for a flexible, mix-and-match approach to scheduling elective courses, a component that is especially conducive to our extensive music program. Students also have a common, school-wide study period twice a week (a Quality Resource Period) where all teachers are available for consultations. |

|
Bay High’s semester-based block schedule allows students to take more credits. Students generally complete four courses in each of the two semesters offered each year. Because there are no study halls beyond the twice-weekly Quality Resource Periods, there is less down time in the schedule. Bay High School maintains high expectations for students, and our students consistently score above the national and state averages on the ACT and SAT college entrance exams in part because all four of their high school years are filled with meaningful study. |

Bay Middle School provides each grade level of students with their own academic wing of the building. The only time grade levels really mingle are for special assemblies. Fifth and sixth-grade students benefit from exposure to higher-level programs than they would typically see at an elementary school. Fifth-grade teaching teams are extremely tuned in to the needs of this age group, and school orientation is designed with their particular developmental level in mind. |

Norman Bee is a wise bee who teaches children important facts about life, such as how to be kind and respectful. He is the focus of many school activities, including the school song. He has inspired the name of an after-school group, the B-bouncers, who learn precision basketball dribbling. Norman Bee was invented by the school marketing committee after several children became frightened when a bee got into the school cafeteria. Since then, children have learned to respect the bee without being afraid. |

Go to the bottom of the grid and choose to show more than 10 assignments. If you choose a number higher than the number of assignments, they will all show on one page. In the current ProgressBook version, when a user chooses a reporting period outside of the current reporting period on the Grade Book Grid and then goes to another page of assignments, the page will refresh to the current reporting period. Software Answers is looking at an adjustment to this in a future update. |

Throughout the marking period, you can post comments to parents at any time by using the daily comment feature (using the notepad and pencil icon which opens a text box). The message you place here can be posted to the web where parents and the student can see if they log in. |

Parents and students now have the option to get email alerts for low grades and missing assignments. If teachers select “post assignment to parent web,” those alerts will be triggered. If there is no grade given for that assignment, the system emails a report of a “0” assignment mark. To avoid these types of alerts, teachers can: 1. Avoid posting assignment to parent web until grades are all filled in, or 2. Click on the assignment and enter grades while in Assignment Marks Page (instead of from grade book grid) so that you can Exclude/Post by individual student. The system will still assume and report a “0” for a missing mark, but the teacher can include an explanation for it, such as “was absent, to make up.” 3. If teacher wants to post to parent web for notice of upcoming assignment, doing so as a homework assignment post will not trigger missing assignment alert. |

In 1997, students chose the Gray Wolf as their school mascot. Our School is recognized by the Wolf Education and Research Center as an official protector of the Gray Wolf. Wolves are social animals. To survive they must work together in a pack. Students at Westerly are encouraged to work together, like a wolf pack, to be successful. Weston Wolf awards students “high fives” when they demonstrate attributes of good Westerly citizenry like trustworthiness, fairness, respect, caring and responsibility. |
